Hi,
The family I am interested is as follows.
James Sherman ALLEN and his wife Anna MOSHER ALLEN.
James was b. 13 Sep 1773 (in NY ?) and died 10 Oct 1838 in Noble Co.,
IN. He is buried in Sanford Cemetery, Noble Township. Anna MOSHER ALLEN
b. 1776 d. 1857 (these dates according to WFT). They had the following
children:
Mosier, Dewitt, Otis, James, Henry, Minerva, Phoebe, John J (b. abt
1817) and Ann.
John J was married twice. His first wife's name is unknown but they had
a daughter Alta born in 1842. I believe the first wife either died in
childbirth or shortly afterwards. John's second wife was Rebecca
Morehead. She was also married before so this may be her first married
name, not her maiden name. They had the following children together:
Alexander b. 1844, Sherman, Phebe, Rebecca, Adeline, Lusina, Clinton,
Perry b. 1859, William, Chauncey.
The family moved to Michigan between 1862 and 1865 where their last
child was born. The rest of the children were born in Noble County
(Green Township, Orange Township and Wolflake - depending on the
source.)
If anyone has information on Allen's living in Noble County in the
1830-1870 range, I would like to hear from you. If anyone is going to
be at the Sanford Cemetery or could go there I would like to ask a huge
favor and look at the following graves.
Row 12 Otis Allen d. 19 Nov 1851 0r 1854 (either 11y 7m 14d or 44y 14d)
Row 18 (in brush) Henry G son of O.D. & M. (GAR) d. May 29, 1853
(in brush) James S died 10 Oct 1838 aged 65 y 27d
(in brush) Phebe C daughter of J. & R. died Sept. 1, 1850 aged 1y
6m 2d
Manerva died Dec. 22, 1818 aged 3 y 3m 3d (this date could
actually be 1848)
I was given the transcriptions from two different books but the
information isn't the same in each book. If someone happens to be going
there I would appreciate any clarification they can offer. Also if
there happens to be a grave near James with the name Anna on it I would
be interested in seeing if that could be his wife. Photos would be nice
too, but I don't want to push my luck. I would be happy to cover any
film and developing costs or trade for look ups in the Seattle/Tacoma
area.
Thank you,
Amanda Dyckman
