Hi. This is my first post to the Noble Co., IN listing. Trust someone can
help me from this missing ancestor.
Looking for more information on Elizabeth BENDER who married Jacob GHERST
(maybe spelled GERST) about 1840. This is what I know:
Jacob GHERST (b ca 1817, d 1850)
m Elizabeth BENDER
b 15 Aug 1817 Lancaster Co., PA
d 14 Jan 1894 Wolcottville, Noble Co., IN
According to her obituary, there were 3 daughters and one son, but I only
know of these:
1. Calista GHERST b ca 1840
2. Harriet Bender GHERST
b ca 1840
d 17 Apr 1883 Inman, KS
m Joseph C. TOUSLEY 29 Nov 1865 Akron, OH
b 30 Sep 1840 Akron, OH
d 1922 Boise, ID
Elizabeth BENDER also had three sisters still living in 1894, but I know
nothing of them or their families.
OBITUARY ~ Mrs. Elizabeth GHERST, maiden name BENDER, was born in Lancaster
Co., Pa., 15 Aug 1817, and died at her home in Wolcottville, Noble Co., IN,
14 Jan 1894, aged 76 years 5 months (less one day). The subject of this
notice moved with her parents to Summit Co., OH, when young. She was married
to Jacob GHERST, who d in 1850, leaving her with four small children, three
daughters and one son. In 1866 she moved to IN, where she lived until the
messenger Death called her to her home in heaven. She was converted from sin
to God, and united with the Evangelical Association. She was faithful to the
last. She leaves two daughters and three sisters to mourn, but they have a
good hope of meeting her in heaven. Religious services were held at the
house, 16 Jan 1894, at 10 a.m., after which her remains were laid in the
cemetery to rest until the resurrection of the just. T. Carroll."
Any help would be appreciated.
