If you have an online family tree, please remember to review it
periodically to make sure you are not displaying information for living
persons. Accepted practice is to display information only for those
persons born before 1900. This protects the privacy of the living who
may not wish to be included in an online database. It also protects them
from possible identity theft and other high-tech crime.
There are a few databases currently online that include information on
living persons in Noble County. If you are asked to provide current
information on your family, make sure that the person requesting the
information does not and is not going to display the information online.
If you choose to allow display online, make sure that you have
obtained permission for online display from all the family members whose
information you are providing.
Once online, information will go far beyond your original intended
recipient. Most genealogists will filter information or remove living
persons from their online databases, but there are a few name collectors
who won't. Make an informed choice before giving out information that
may be used for a purpose you did not intend.
