Kendallville American Legion Post 86, with the assistance of the Sons of the
American Legion Squadron 86 of the Kendallville American Legion, will conduct
a ceremony at the "Old Cemetery" behind the Quick Tanks plant in Kendallville
at noon on Saturday to install new government-issued headstones for two Civil
War veterans.
This is the first installation in an effort to replace all damaged or missing
gravestones of Civil War and War of 1812 veterans buried in Noble County. 26
headstones have been delivered and 50 more are on order, all of which are
being provided free of charge by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs,
though these groups are responsible for the installation costs.
The ceremony on Saturday is open to the public.
For more information from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on obtaining
free headstones for Veterans' graves or replacement headstones for those lost
or destroyed (including Veterans of Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War,
etc.), see:
