Lynne,
U. B. stands for "United Brethren" - "The United Brethren, about six
years ago, became so strong in the northwestern part (Perry twp) that
they felt capable, financially, of erecting a church, which they did,
constructing it wholly of brick. The society is now in good
circumstances." History of Noble County, Goodspeed and Blanchard - 1882
"In about the year 1854, Rev. Bell organized a class of Wesleyan
Methodists, east of town, at the Harvey Schoolhouse...The class met in
the old schoolhouse and occasionally in the court room at Albion, and at
last, for about two years preceding the erection of their church, in the
U. B. Church at Albion...The United Brethren organized a society in
1867. This society was really formed from the class of the Wesleyan
Methodists."
I suspect (and may be wrong) that the United Brethren eventually became
the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) that merged with the Methodist
Church in the late 1960s to become the United Methodist. The United
Methodist archives may have information on the church.
In any event, there is a Brethren mailing list at Rootsweb where you
might also find a bit more information. To subscribe:

I checked the index to the 1882 History and didn't find "Enyart" listed.
Have you checked the Noble County site? There has been a lot of
information added in the last year.
Email me directly if you haven't been able to locate them on the census
and I'll have a look at the 1860 census index.

My ancestress, MARY E. (ENYART) CAIN, may have been a member of the "U.B
Church" and the marriage of her daughter was performed by Pastor William M. BELL of
that church in 1887. As best I can determine, Mary lived near Ligonier, in Perry
Township, Noble County.
1. What denomination is "U.B."?
2. Does anyone have an resources to determine the name and location of a church in
which William BELL was the Pastor?
3. Does anyone have any idea if the church determined in answer to question 2 above
has changed its name - so I can write for records?
I know this is a long shot, and a lot of questions, too :), but I sure could use your
help on this.
Thanks for any direction you can give me.
