To the List,
I'm new at getting information from the list and not sure how to do it.
But here goes.
I have information that my great grand parents came from Germany to
Indiana, and settled near or at Kendallville, in the time period either
1855 or 1857. Their names were perhaps Johann Loth and his wife Dorothe
and children Maire, Wilhem and Carl, later to be called John, Dora,
Willian, Mary and Charles. Johann was 33, Dorothe was 32, Maire was 7,
Wilhem was 6, and Carl was 6 months, and this was supposed to be in 1857
according to one report.
They may have sailed from Hamburg to New York perhaps in 1857, but
another report shows 1855.
In 1858 the parents Johann and Dorothe both died. I'm thinking that
this left three small children with out parents and they must have been
adopted or cared for by someone in that area.
My grandfather William was one of the children, and lived with a family
named Leonard. William's brother, Charles changed his name to Lowth and
went on to live at La Grange, IN. and married and died there. William
moved to MI when about 18 years old and changed his name to Law.
So, I'm thinking there must be cemetery records there and adoption
records, naturalization records, school census records. Perhaps someone
can do a look up on this, or have suggestions for me on how to
proceed.
I can do look ups in Franklin County, NE.
Thanks.
