21 August 1761 - "The honorable David Strauss from Freien Diez, Dutch
musketeer, according to documents presented by Cornelius Strauss, a
captain's master; and his fiance Anna Maria Philippina, legitimate
daughter of Christian Roffer, a miner from Annaburg in Saxony - from
Zeppenfeld were married in the parsonage"
In 1765, David Strauss emigrated from Zeppenfeld on the snow "Betsy"
with Philipinna and daughters, Christina Elizabetha who married Henry
Stroh, Anna Gertraud who married Leonard Diehl and Anna Margaretha who
married Peter Kayser. Additional children were born in Montgomery Co,
PA: Anna Maria who married Conrad Wetzel, Henry who married Barbara
Rauch, Frederick who married Catharine (?) and John who married
Magdalena Schnepp. The last children were probably born in Berks Co, PA,
but baptised in Upper Milford, now Lehigh Co: Jacob who married
Catharine Neuhard (daughter of Frederick Neuhard Jr), George, Barbara
who may have married Jacob Wolfinger and Magdalena who married John
Yetter.
David Strauss was captain in the Berks Co Militia during the
Revolutionary War. He was located in Hereford twp, Berks Co from 1775
through 1781. In 1790, David Strauss was enumerated in Macungie twp,
Northampton Co, PA.
The Strauss families were located in Hamilton twp, Northampton (now
Monroe Co, PA) in 1800, but by 1810 sons had started their journey West.
John and Henry moved to the Beaver/Allegheny/Washington Co, PA area with
their sister Anna Maria Wetzel. The Stroh and Kayser families settled in
what is now Clarion Co, PA. Frederick with his sons, David and Joseph,
may have located in Wayne Co, OH. Jacob stayed in Monroe Co until after
the death of David and Philipina when he located in what is now
Northumberland Co, PA. Barbara Wolfinger and Magdalena Yetter remained
with their families in Monroe Co, PA. Location of Leonard and Gertraud
Diehl is unknown, but they may have gone West to Allegheny Co, PA.
David and Philippina died in Monroe Co, PA and are buried in Storm
family cemetery - an abandoned cemetery located off the road in the
woods. Their stone is still standing and has the following inscriptions:
