The death certificate of Charles Nelson Prentice b 1849 d 1924 lists his parents as George Prentice and Anna Duigneon (the sp is hard to read) . It could be Dangan, Dangon, Dwigon, etc. If you have any info on Anna or George please contact me at mojerio(a)c2i2.com
Try inter-library loan. I got Noble County history books that way.

A private e-mail query asked me where this reference is available and what it
costs. To the latter question I can easily answer, "I don't know."
Outside of the Minnesota Historical Society--where the book is used in the
reference room and not available for purchase--I don't know where it is
available. I didn't see it listed in the Higginson Company Catalog, but my
copy is old; they may have it now. Check the Indiana Historical Society and,
if there is one, the Noble County Historical Society (or the Noble County
Genealogical Society). If anyone on this list DOES know where else the
reference is located, please post it to the list so we'll all know.

Does anyone HAVE these volumes? Living on a fixed income does not
warrant spending $100+ just to find a name or two. I would appreciate
any help I can get on these two counties.

While browsing the online catalog for the Minnesota Historical Society, I
came upon the name of a third reference for Noble County in their files, to
wit:
Title: Alvord's history of Noble County, Indiana ... :
to which is appended a comprehensive compendium
of local biography - memoirs of representative
men and women of the county, whose works of merit
have made their names imperishable ...
Publisher: Logansport, Ind. : B. F. Bowen, 1902.
Description: 602 p. ; 28 cm.
Subject: Noble County (Ind.)--Biography.
Subject: Noble County (Ind.)--History.
Hope this helps.

In response to a query in the Noble County list, here's some useful
information for all four counties. I've copied this to the Noble, LaGrange
and Steuben county lists, but am not a member of the DeKalb county list so I
cannot post there.
there.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ------------------------------
Two compilations of historical information include Noble County.
One is: "Counties of Lagrange and Noble, Historical and Biographical".
441+502 pages (F. A. Battey: 1882) reprinted 1993 by the HIgginson Book
Company in Salem, MA and selling for $95--as of a few years ago.
The second is: "History of Northeast Indiana: Lagrange, Steuben, Noble &
DeKalb Counties." ed. by Ford, Stevens, McEwen & McIntosh. 2 vols. 612+463
pages. Originally published in 1920, reprinted by the Higginson Book Company
in Salem, MA and selling for $105.
What's fun about the second one is that Noble and Lagrange County researchers
may discover reports about grandchildren of people in the first volume!
Now those are steep prices--but the material is printed on archival paper
which would last longer. If you have family in one of these books and can
afford it, it's worth your while. (Higginson's can be reached by e-mail at
higginson(a)cove.com; I believe they also have a website.)
However, I suggest that you check your historical society if you wish to see
pages in these books without paying the cost for purchasing the reprinted
version. I know the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne has the second
one on its shelves--and may have the first. I don't know whether these books
have been microfilmed and found their way into the LDS FHC collections.
Some of the Indiana biographies are also being transcribed online. I don't
have the website address here, but I'm sure someone else on the list can
supply the information.
Be cautious with these. In addition to the typos which crept naturally into
the printing of the original books, typos also exist in the transcripts.
Nevertheless, good luck! I hope the above information will help.

Looking for more information on the BREWER and BARNUM families who settled
in or near Albion between 1840 - 1850. Also looking for any information on
Dr. William CLARK who was in practice there by 1850.
