Hello Lisa,
Noticed your query dated 10/9/2008 regarding your SOLOMON WATSON.
I was once again going through the Morgan Co., IN - Orginal Land Sales From U.S.
Government, sorted by location and shows neighbors of the settlers.
My ancestor David Avery also born in NC (1799) purchased land August 26, 1823 and Solomon
purchased land on September 8th along with a Edward Simmon on Sept. 27th.
I am trying to locate where David and his father John came from in NC. Thinking possiably
these early settlers traveled together from NC. Do you know where your Solomon Watson was
from in NC????
Do you know who Solomon's father or uncles where? I have a book "Annals of
Lincoln Co., NC, by Wm. L. Sherrill, 1937 (508 pages). On page 13, it mentions a WILLIAM
WASTON who in 1769 who was appointed by the The Colonial Assembly of NC as Commissioners
to contract for the building of Court House, Prison and Stocks for Tryon County and to
levy a tax of two shillings on each taxable poll to meet this expense.
The 1790 Lincoln Co., NC Census shows a "WASON, JNO".
NOTE: Lincoln Co. was created in 1779 from Tryon Co., NC.
Any information is most appreciated. Thank you.
