Message Board Post:
I'm searching for any leads on the parentage of my 4th great grandmother, Eliza P.
Brady who married William A. Cox on 8 December 1825 in Morgan County, Indiana.
Eliza was born on 23 October 1806 in Petersburg, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania; she died
on 25 August 1888 in Centerton, Clay Township, Morgan County, Indiana. She and her husband
were the parents of 12 children:
1) Perry Bedford Cox (my 3rd great grandfather) b. 1827, d. 1896, married 1st Lucinda C.
Clark (dau. of John & Rebecca (Matthews) Clark), 2nd Mary Stout, and moved to
Cumberland County, Illinois;
2) Ezra S. Cox, b. 1827, d. 1870, married Anna Mariah Matthews, dau. of Calvin and Sarah
(Thompson) Matthews;
3) Lauressa Cox, b. 1829, d. 1911, married George Noble, son of James and Nancy (Matthews)
Noble;
4) Celinda or Melinda Cox, b. 1831/2, d. 1894, married Charles R. Record, son of Andrew
Jackson & Margaret (Reynolds) Record;
5) Harriet Cox, b. 1833, d. 1834;
6) John W. Cox, b. 1834;
7) Alexander Cox, b. & d. 1836;
8) Chambers Cox, b. 1840, d. 1866, Captain of Co. K, 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery;
9) Clayton Cox, b. 1842, d. 1866, Captain of Co. K, 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery, captured
and held prisoner for 8 months in Louisiana where he contracted lung disease (of which he
died shortly after returning home), Cox's Battery;
10) Charles Cox, b. 1844, d. 1863;
11) Maria Cox, b. & d. 1846;
and 12) Martha Jane Cox, b 1849.
William Cox moved to Morgan County, Indiana circa 1822 from what is now Greenwood Township
in Juniata County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Alexander Cox, Sr. and Elizabeth
Dixon.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Matt
