I have not heard of an IN Children's home in Martinsville. We had a county farm, but
I'm not sure when it closed . I have not heard of their books being extant. Their
cemtery location is argued, and there are probably no headstones. Regarding Curtis's
death date, check out the Morgan County History and Genealogy Association cemetery
database. In the event he had a headstone, he may have a reading in a Morgan County
cemetery. Hardback binders of cemeteries in the county are at the Morgan County Public
Library.
If/when you get a death date, you might find an obit by requesting it from the same
library. Check their website for the reference librarian. You may not get good
cooperation from the Morgan County Health Department, which wants only direct descendants
to request records. You might get better results from going to the Indiana Board of
Health, which holds the same information, if their policies are more flexible.
Some files of children who were wards of the state are available at the Indiana State
Archives. Some of their databases are in house, not on line yet. Hopefully one of these
searches will yield results for you.

Message Board Post:
I'm looking for any info on a child, Curtis Kirkwood, taken by the board of
Children's Guardians and sent to the Indiana Children's Home in Martinsville. He
was sent to a few foster homes and then died in the Home in 1909. Any idea where they
might have buried him? I have his entire file but it just says that he died. No indication
as to what happened or where they buried him. He was 14. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks, Scott
