To Volunteers in Morgan County
It never ceases to amaze me, how accommodating the people of Morgan County are!? This took
a lot of time for some volunteer to look up, retype, proofread, and provide to the family!
Recently, I found some old printouts of emails from ten years ago--the days when Indiana
was digging up their pioneer cemeteries in the interest of new roads and housing
developments, and the fight genealogists had on their hands to preserve this history! Dale
(sorry, I don't remember her last name) and I had a regular two-way conversation for
several months about how unfair (and unholy) it was to desecrate these graves. I have
ancestors buried in Morgan County and have been there to see the graves, where they were
originally placed. It means so much to be able to stand there, on the very spot where
ancestors must have stood as they buried their family member, looking at the original
headstone, looking out over the same countryside they saw, and connect with the history of
150 years ago!
Thank you, and KUDOS to all the volunteers of Morgan County!
Carol Bradbury
