I think you are right, they just answered differently. One of Becky Hardin's books
lists most, if not all, the old churches per township. But I think you also get that from
the earlier histories. Still can't think of another way for you to gain info about his
parents. So many people left NC for Indiana due to land sales about that time. Many of the
NC county records are at the state archives, that may be your next attempt.

Sharon,
Do you have any idea which church he might have been a member of as a
"Protestant" back then and what membership records might be available? The
following link is my source which listed both he and William as Protestant but his other
son John as Methodist. I always thought Methodist was considered Protestant. Maybe they
were all Methodist but just answered the question differently for the directory.

It looks like he's not Quaker, and his son's data would only include maybe who
the son's parents were. The Adams twp. names appear to not be Quaker. He's likely
buried in West Union at the request of his Quaker son. Have you noticed John and James
Taylor on the link you sent? I would rule them out, then I would study the Lamb family
histories. Check out a book called "Representative and _----?----- Men of
Indianapolis and Vicinity" for bios. I can't remember the full title. It covers
pretty much the whole state, as people subscribed to include their bios. And have youi
looked at all the Morgan Co resources, like Noah Major's book. If you want more info
on some resources, go to the Morgan County History and Genealogy website.

Thank you Sharon,
I have found where he is buried. This is his grave:

I will check the Plainfield library for monthly meeting records, but I am not hopeful
that I will find anything. You are probably right about him not being a Quaker.
There's an early directory that says that he was a Protestant.
I do not know which route Allen took or when he took it. The only thing I know is census
records say he was born in NC, and his obituary says he was born in Randolph County.
I know he was in Morgan county by 1837 because James DeMoss married them in Morgan County
that year and got a land patent of 40 acres there a couple of months later at age 24.
He is listed as one of Adams township's first residents along with a bunch of other
people. Maybe you recognize some of them? And maybe they all came together? Here's a
link to the page that lists them all.

Thanks again for your help. By the way, this is John Peacock Lamb's son-in-law, who
you helped me with before.

possible you could find at least where he is buried. I don't think the church records
will show his parents. If William joined, that appears to mean he wasn't a
"birthright" Quaker. If that is the case, Allen was probably not Quaker. Still,
monthly meeting records for Quaker churches in both Hendricks and Morgan Counties should
be available at the library in Plainfield. There may be more details about William or
Allen in these records.

Unfortunately, Morgan County didn't keep death records till 1900.

> Marriage records (found marriage to Louisa)
> Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, all volumes (only contains reference to
son William joining in early 1890s)

obituary indicates he was born here in 1813) found nothing
