Platt books should have that information. Numerous local libraries have platt books for
various counties throughout the state in their genealogical libraries.

Subject: Re: [INMORGAN] George W. Portis Log Cabin
I have not been to Martinsville, however have researched the land and
robate records at the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis and at the
llen County Library (that was YEARS ago, so I don't know what they have).
ou might want to check out the holdings of those libraries, especially if
ou have other Indiana research to do.

hat is the best source of land records for Morgan County, IN? I would like
o find where my great-grandfather George Portis built his cabin about 1870.
lso I;m searching for information about the house he lived in on High
treet in Brooklyn. Would those land records reside in Martinsville, as the
ounty seat? Or is there a better place to search for them?
Also, what about recorded wills? George died in Morgan Co. and is buried in
ethel Cemetery. Would I find records of wills in the courthouse in
artinsville? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
