There were many Grays in early Martinsville. It's hard not to believe he is connected
with them somehow. His birth date can't be proven with Indiana birth records, which
start in the late 1800's and are inconsistently reported until abt 1920.
Check with Patience Northern, part time staff at the Morgan County Public Library. There
is a list of burials in Cunningham Cemetery from the 1830's that may give you some
ideas.
An article on the early Gray families has been suggested for our Morgan County History and
Genealogy Association newsletter. If you want to contribute what you have on John Wesley
Gray and descendants, plus anything you may know about his migration from Morgan County,
maybe we can put something together that will help you and interest readers. You may find
a cousin who knows something you don't.

Message Board Post:
John Wesley Grey (or Gray) is my great-great-grandfather.
My living relatives say that he was an orphan, b. 5 Feb 1848 in
Morgan County. I would like to confirm this date and find
out who his parents were. Do you know where I could find
this information? We have been unable to pursue the
Grey/Gray line further and would love to overcome this road block.
Thank you very much.
Michael Grey
