Am not researching this line, just trying to be helpful. The marriage to Samuel White was
also a second for Lucinda. I will start in 1850 census for Indiana, Morgan county, Adams
township, page 6. There was a family headed by John Johnson, 48, a farmer, born in NC,
and included Charity, 48, NC, - Hezekiah, 22, NC, - Lucinda, 18, NC, - Huldahann, 17, NC,
- Lydia, 14, Ind, - Thos, 13, Ind, - a male J.B., 11, Ind, - Joseph, 9, Ind, - a male
Ashley, 7, Ind, - Emily, 6, Ind, and Hezekiah Hadley, 2, Ind. Unfortunateely prior to
1880 no family relationships were shown. Lucinda Johnson married Jacob Hatley in Morgan
county on 1 Aug 1850, source is book C-C, page 521. Ind the 1860 census for Morgan
county, Washington township, P.O. of Martinsville, page 34, the family was headed by Jacob
Hatley, 29, laborer, SC, and included Lucinda, 25, Mo, - Elizabeth, 9, Ind and John, 2,
Ind. As you know she and Samuel White are listed as being married in 1863. In the 1870
census for Morga!
n county, Washington township, the family is headed by Samuel White, 57, farmer, Ky, and
included Lucinda, 39, keeping house, Ind, - Margaret, 20, Ind, - Angeline, 18, Ind, -
Elizabeth Hatley, 18, - John Hatley, 12, Ind, - Alice Hatley, 8, Ind, and Lafayette
Hatley, 1, Ind. Lafayette is a prime example of what is wrong with the censuses before
1880, was he a son of one of the daughters of Lucinda or had some other reason for being
there? Something must have happened because in the 1880 census for in the 1880 for Morgan
county, Washington township, pages 19 and 20 the family was headed by Thomas Funk, 60,
farm laborer, Ky, and included his wife, Lucinda, 45, keeping house, Ind, - his stepson
John N Hatley, farm laborer, Ind, - and his stepdaughter Alice Hatley, 18, Ind. Keep in
mind that the enumerators wrote what they were told about ages and birthplaces and had no
way of knowing if it was true. Hope this helps. Don
