Hi, I have some info that might be helpful to you. My gr. gr grandfather was Benjamin
Stafford (born 1810) in Paint Twp, Highland County, Ohio. His parents were Sarah Bullock
and Robert Stafford of Guilford, North Carolina. His siblings were: Sterling, Andrew,
James, Lydia, Grant, Allen, Benjamin, William and Robert.
Several years ago I found an old book about Morgan County at the library and copied the
following:
"Grant Stafford was our representative for 1833-34, and our senator from 1836 - 40.
Mr. Stafford was born in Ohio in the year 1803 and came to Morgan County in 1822. He
taught in the first school in Brown township. He was married twice, his wives being half
sisters. He was the father of 10 or 11 children. He was a successful stock dealer, and
owned one of the best farms in the county. He held important trusts and offices. Mr.
Stafford was a Whig. He suddenly died about 1853. He and his wife were members of the
Christian church, first-class pioneers whose farm was in the northeast corner of
Washington Township."
The first Stafford from our family to come to America was William Stafford who was born in
England in 1607 and came to America as a ward of a family named Mason. William's
father was born in Grafton, England in 1554 and he evidently married a relative named
Dorothea. Her father was Lord Henry Stafford.
Hope this isn't too much info for you. I just got a home computer and a copy of
Family Tree magazine. I'm afraid I'm hooked now!
