Hello Jeanie,
Since your "Peter Townsend" was born in NC, and my Morgan County ancestors
also are from North Carolina, I looked up your "Townsend" name in my book:
"Annuals of Lincoln County, NC., by William L. Sherrill" 1937. This book
contains interesting and authentic facts of Lincoln County history through
the years of 1749-1937.
Your Peter Townsend may be the decedent of Thomas Townsend who in 1776 was
member in the Safety Committee in Tryon County who met in 1776. See Chapter
3, page 23 and 24 of this book. If you would like more information on what
was "resolved" regarding this committees meeting I can e-mail you the
information in my book to you. NOTE: No other "Townsend's" are mentioned in
the book thereafter.
SPECIAL NOTE: In 1779 Tryon County was divided into Lincoln and Rutherford
Co. the courthouse falling into Lincoln Co.
Best of luck, in your genealogy research!
