Phillip Sechrist was born in 1790.Although it is thought that he was born in
Rowan county NC it is possible that he was born in PA and his parents later
migrated to NC.
In checking the various census records in NC from 1790-1840 (date that
Phillip removed to Morgan county IN. I find the following:
1790 ROWAN
1. Jacob Seacrist in Household 2287
2. Frederick Secrest in Household 2259 (I believe this to be George Frederick)
1810 ROWAN
1. George Seacrest on page 79
1820 ROWAN
1. Phillip Seachrist on page 326
2. Daniel Secrest on page 328
3. George Secrest on page 362
1830 DAVIDSON (as Davidson was formed out of Rowan co in 1822)
1. Christian Seachrist on page 209
2. Conrad Seachrist on page 229
3. Daniel Seachrist on page 239
4. George Seachrist on page 188
5. Jacob Seachrist age 25 on page 188
6. John Sechrist on page 228
7. Lawrence Seachrist on page 188
8. Phillip Seachrist on page 240
9. Solomon Seachrist on page 243
10. Thomas Seachrist on page 229
11. Thomas Seachrist on page 254
1840 DAVIDSON
1. Andrew Seachrist age 23 on page 271 (could be a son of above mentioned
Phillip as there were more then one Andrew in the area)
2. Christian Seachrist on page 270 (gone by 1850)
3. Conrad Seachrist on page 292 (gone by 1850)
4. Daniel Seachrist on page 271
5. Enoch Seachrist on page 271 (gone by 1850)
6. George Seachrist on page 286
7. Jacob Seachrist on page 271
8. Jess Seachrist age 24 on page 272 (this is a son of the above mentioned
Phillip)
9. Lawrence Seachrist on page 267
10. Phillip Seachrist on page 286 (gone by 1850)
11. Solomon Seachrist on page 267 (gone by 1850)
12. Thomas Seachrist on page 272 (gone by 1850)
Although there were many SEACHRIST in the areas during this time; my Phillip
married Mary SULLIVAN on June 10 1815 in Rowan county NC; so the family was
obviously still in the area during that time. The one constant in the area
within the time frame of 1790-1820 was George/ Frederick Sechrist.
There were two constants within the census records being:
George and Daniel. (The Jacob reappearing in 1830 was too young to have been
a father in 1790.)
Now since I have already spoken at length with Norm Sechrest and he feels
that George/Frederick couldn't have been the father as he finds no record in
Churches, etc for a child named Phillip....
I would be most interested in speaking with anyone who has info on this Jacob
Seachrist also listed in the 1790 or for that matter any of the ones listed
in the 1820.
Now from my own viewpoint, it seems that George/Frederick "could" have been
the father as some of his children also migrated from Rowan/Davidson counties
to Morgan county IN as did my Phillip and his children and they settled
within the same close vicinity in Morgan county.
Were the Jacob and Frederick listed in the 1790 brothers???
Any help is most appreciated.
