I copied this divorce information from a book on Indiana records.
1808--divorce granted by Indiana Territory legislature, setting
precedent for next time frame
1817-1851-Legislature of State of Indiana granted divorces
1795-1817--general court
1795- date--circuit court
1849-1852-court of common pleas for Marion County
1848-1852-court of common pleas for Tippecanoe County
1853-1873-court of common pleas for ALL counties.
various years--superior courts in many Indiana counties granted
divorces, but not Morgan
No law requires keeping divorce records separate from other records,
so they will be mixed into the records of the court where they are
found. The Clerk of the Circuit Court (county clerk) can give info
and certified copies
Sorry, I was too stupid to copy down the reference in which I found
this data. It was heavily footnoted with references to the Acts of
the legislature(s).
