The farm you mention belonged to my great-uncle, Wade Duckworth, and the barn, with a sign
"Old Hickory Farm", has
been preserved. You might find numerous small shelves built into the kichen, where
Wade's wife kept her large collection of salt and pepper shakers. Although it's
probably gone, the main bedroom had a large solid walnut bed, made from trees on the farm
by my great granfather.
Wade was born in that bed in 1891 and died in it in 1978.
His brothers had farms south on 67, and west of the hwy.
There's a Duckworth road marked, which goes to a state forestand to Big Hurricane
Hill. There was a Duckworth-Stout
marriage around 1849. so many would be buried in the Stout cemetery. Also Mt. Olive,
Bethlenem, Martinville, Gosport, Spencer, and more. The Morgan Co; website has been doing
a good job of updating cemetery information.
