Hi
My great grandfather, was born in Jackson Co. His brother John was born in
Morgan Co. My great grandfather usually didn't write out his full name and
only used some of the initials. His name was
Oliver Hazard Comodore Perry Stout
His father Aaron Stout had served on the great lakes during the War of 1812
under Captian (later Comodore) Oliver Hazard Perry. Perry was famous for
the message he sent to Washington after he defeated the British on Lake
Erie. He wrote, "We have met the enemy and he is ours." Pogo, in the
cartoon later twisted this to "We have met the enemy and he is us."
Perry's
brother Matthew was also a Comodore and famous for sailing his fleet to
Japan.
Ted Stout
