Am not researching this line, just trying to be helpful. You may have this info, but just
in case. In the 1870 census for Indiana, Morgan county, Monroe township, page 88 there
was a family headed by William M Bray, 31, a farm laborer, born in Ind, personal estate
worth $100, and included Louisa, 30, keeping house, Ohio, - Calvin, 5, Ind, - Mary E, 4,
Ind, - Oliver, 3, Ind, and James A, 1, Ind. Living next door or possibly on the same farm
was another family headed by William Bray, 75, farmer born in SC , real estate worth $8000
and personal estate worth $1500, and included Susan, 58, keeping house, Ky, and Mary A,
18, Ind, personal estate worth $1600 (unusal for a young girl to have that much wealth).
Unfortunately no relationships are shown. We move to the 1880 census for the same
township, Dist 263, page 17 and find the same family headed by William M Bray, 40, farmer,
born in Ind with both parents born in NC, and included his wife Susan Louisa, 39, keeping
house, b!
orn in Ohio as were both parents, his son Calvin, works on farm, Ind, his daughter Mary
E, at home, Ind, his son Oliver, 12, works on farm, Ind, his son James A, 11, works on
farm, Ind, and his son Nathan, 9, Ind. Still living nearby is a family headed by William
Bray, retired farmer, born in NC, and included his wife, Susan, at home, born in KY, both
parents in VA. I think there is a possibility that the elder Susan might be a second wife
and not the mother of the younger William, because of the difference in age between her
and her husband and the fact that the younger William lists his mother as being born in
NC. Hope this helps. Good luck. Don
