After months of waiting I finally received information from the National Archives on the
Civil War pension for my G Grandfather William Curtis Morgan. William married Mary Eveline
Townsend and three children were born of this union. One being my Grandmother Hattie
(Hester) Magnolia Morgan who married Benjamin Harrison Coatney. William Curtis Morgan
died in 1868 of diseases he contacted while he was a prisoner of war at Andersonville POW
camp in Georgia. The year after his death his wife Mary married William J. Johnson in
Scott County, Indiana. This marriage also produced 3 children. George, Hattie, and Daisy
Johnson. I believe George Johnson married a lady named "Bell" and I think they
lived in Morgantown, Indiana. I have no other information on these 3 Johnson's and
would like to hear from anyone who may have any additional information. One bit of
information I found in this file (over 100 pages) was a death certificate for Mary. I was
under the assumption that Mary died i!
n Arkansas as the family had moved there in the 1880's. However this death certificate
indicates that Mary Eveline Townsend Morgan Johnson died in Indianapolis, Marion County,
Indiana on October 16, 1901. The address on the death certificate indicates she was living
with Ben and Hattie Coatney. If anyone can supply any additional information on these
people it would be appreciated. Don Coatney
