Hi Chuck,
I did look for "Ole' Dan", but he's just not popping up much here in
Morgan County. I found his marriage recorded to Sarah Pollard in Marriage Book 2, Page
109 dated December 17, 1879.
I found a short notice in the Martinsville Republican dated January 15, 1903, stating
"Daniel Cooper, aged seventy-five, who lived near the line of Morgan and Johnson
counties, died Friday. The funeral services and burial, which took place at Morgantown
Sunday, were in charge of the Masonic fraternity." Is this your Daniel? If so, you
may want to do some research at Johnson County as well.
I also found a notice dated March 12, 1891 from the Martinsville Republican which states
"Sarah M. Cooper, of White Hall, Owen County is dead at the age of 70 years. Her
disease was paralysis. She was the daughter of Nathan Livingston, one of the first
settlers of that county." If this is your Sarah, Owen County would be the place to
search next.
Another article dated April 12, 1883 in Martinsville Republican lists births and deaths:
Births: Daniel and Sarah Cooper, girl. Deaths: Infant daughter of Daniel and Sarah
Cooper.
A search of the Cemetery indexes of Morgan County listed a Daniel W. Cooper and Ama A.
Cooper, his wife buried in East Hill Cemetery, Morgantown, IN. Dates listed for this
Daniel Cooper are b. November 13, 1823 d. Jan 9, 1903 (mason). Ama A. Cooper b. Dec. 3,
1825, d. Oct 15, 1899.
Do you think this is your Daniel Cooper? Did he remarry after Sarah died? Possibly
Daniel & Sarah married in Morgan County then moved after the 1880 census.
I do have a few copies to mail to you if you send me a SASE. E-mail me privately for my
mailing address. There may be more info available here in Morgan County, but I will need
more information in order to do a more thorough search.
