I am searching for any record of John F. WHETSTINE / WHETSTONE in Morgan County. He was
born 1812 in North Carolina. He married Mary Whetstone in Dearborn County Indiana on 3 Feb
1833. Though it has been reported that all of his children were born in Morgan County, he
first appears in Morgan County, Jackson Twnshp, abt 1848 when he purchased two large
parcels of land about 1/2 mile S of Mt Nebo. SR 252 cuts through the middle of this land
today. He appears in the 1850 and 1860 census, then disappears. Another Whetstine, Rufus
Whetstine, purchased land immediately adjacent to his in 1852, so there might be a family
connection. Also, Mathias Whetstine Sr. had land about 2 miles east of him, another
possible family member. Though he was married as John Whetstone, his name changed to
Whetstine at some point between 1833 and 1848. His wife Mary Whetstone could possibly be
the daughter of Mathias Whetstine, but that I don't know that for a fact.
Children of John F. Whetstine and Mary Whetstone:
- George Washington Whetstine, b.15 Apr 1835, d. 24 Apr 1865, Union soldier, buried
National Cemetery, Raleigh NC.
- Julia A. Whetstine, b. abt 1838, m. 21 Aug 1866 John Mitchell
- Ellender Whetstine, b. abt 1841
- Alfred Whetstine, b. abt 1843
- Rufus Whetstine, b. abt 1848
- Elias Whetstine, b. abt 1858
If anybody has any additional information on John F. Whetstine or family, it would be
GREATLY appreciated, i.e. parentage, death/burial records, etc. I'd be glad to share
what I have.
Thanks very much.
