Listers,
I am now seeking to establish contact with any descendants of John Philips and his first
or second wife.
He married first Cynthia Davidson in 1845. She was about 17 at the time. They had a large
number of children.
He married 2nd to a Mrs. Elizabeth Rowan in 1864. They seem to have had three children
together, plus her children from the previous marriage lived with them as did some of his
children.
John spelled his last name with one L.
The reason for my interest is because I suspect I have a photograph of a great-grandson of
his father Stephen Philips from Randolph County, North Carolina. The father of this boy,
Franklin Philips, is not listed on Stephen's will because he was probably an
illegitimate grandson who received his inheritance through one of Stephen's sons.
Franklin Philips is suspected to be the father of William Franklin Walls, who was my great
grandfather. Family legend and court records do support much of this evidence, and I am
anxious to get in touch with any serious researchers of the Philips family here in Morgan
County, Indiana.
It would mean a lot to me if I could compare this photograph with family photos of the
Phillips family to see if there is a resemblance.
Thanks very much. I can be reached at twwalls(a)prodigy.net
