Susan,
Abraham Morgan may have attended the Mooresville Academy. As far as I
know, it was the only Academy in the county. Located on the west side of
Mooresville, the building was put up by 14 subscribers. Many of these were
Quaker, but some other men of the community participated. The Mooresville
Academy was constructed in 1861 as a high school for area students. In
1870 the building was sold to the Mooresville schools. The building was
enlarged and was used as a school, albeit mostly an elementary school in
later years, through 1971.
Today the renovated Academy is open as a historical museum.

My Great Grandfather's son, Abraham Morgan was attending the Academy as it
was called, in 1862 when on his way home for christmas, he caught
pneumonia and died. He was 20 years old. Where would he have gone to
school that he had to stay at the Academy and ride home on a horse for two
days? Are there any records left of the Academy?
Susan
