For those of you who enjoyed "Pioneers of Morgan County" by Noah Major, get
ready to be excited again!
Some of you may know of former county historian Becky Hardin, now deceased, and her work
over many years to acquire and share Morgan County History. Becky, with the help of
others, put together two Morgan County Scrapbooks, Vol I and II. Each is a compilation
of information on the county. Scrapbook I has been reprinted for some years and is
available through Morgan County History and Genealogy Association. You can go to the
MCHGA web page for that information.
There has been a lot of interest in getting Scrapbook II reprinted. Becky Hardin's
family was willing for MCHGA to republish this work, originally published in 1989. It is
hot off the presses, an 8 1/2" by 11" soft cover book of 512 pages done in
"perfect" binding, which means book type binding. Contents include sections on
schools, churches, lodges, other organizations, each township, and miscellaneous and
name/place index. Most information was extracted by Becky Hardin and others from Morgan
County newspapers. There are many pictures of Morgan County groups and places.
The miscellaneous category includes information circa 1940 about known cemeteries,
schools, and churches. There are some bits of local history and defunct newspapers, and
best of all.....a name and place index.
This information is now on the MCHGA website. You can go there to download an order form.
Notice that tax is paid only by Indiana residents. The pricing structure is favorable
to members.
Besides some great meetings, quarterly newsletters come with the membership, including
articles on Morgan County families and places. More information about membership can be
obtained on the website.
We hope there is value in this book for many listers. It includes much compiled
information that could be useful in family research. The index goes from page 466 to page
507.
I hope there's information there for each of you.
