Hi Carin,
You are welcome and thanks for the nice comments. I'm not among the most
knowledgeable on Morgan County records, but I may be the only resource on this list.
I've learned through being on the MCHGA board and holding office.
What an interesting mystery to research! There may be a Holloway family file at the
library. I'm not sure about Andrews. And look for the first wife's family file
also. There is at least one Holloway family still living in the county. With an 1897
death, don't be surprised to not find a death certificate. The health department will
probably not check for you, as you are not the direct descendant. They stick with the
letter of the law.
There may be something in the paper, either about final divorces or obits. Fortunately
you will find many issues, if not all, of the Martinsville Republican for 1897 and years
before and after.
Best wishes for finding what you are looking for.
Sharon

Sharon,
Thank you for replying. I'll send an email to the library
right after this
email to you.
Don't know if you remember me or not, I wrote about a month or
two ago about
needing to find out about an axe murder that took place in
Morgan County
around the turn of the century (1900). Well, I finally
tracked that man down
and the murder took place in Wabash County, Illinois and not in
Indiana at all.
Elden Foster ANDREWS had lived in Morgan County and was
married there
twice. I know his first wife died (this is my husband's
2nd great-grandmother).
I don't know what happened to his second wife. I'm
not sure if there was a
divorce, but Elden married Nancy HOLLOWAY in Morgan County
in 1897, and by the
1900 census, he's living in Wabash County, Illinois and he
says he's single.
His third wife died in a house fire and he murdered his fourth
wife with a
hammer (and not an axe after all). I'm just curious if he
killed all of his
wives. I'm going to be looking at old newspapers while I'm
visiting Morgan
County, but first wanted to check divorce records to make sure
he didn't just
divorce Nancy HOLLOWAY instead of killing her.
Thank you again for your help to me and for all the help you
give on this
mailing list.
