Hello listers. It's been awhile since I sent out a query, and with all the additional computers on line now, I thought it was about time to re submit! The 1st proveable member of my German origined HARRIS Family is Henry Harris DOB 1/1804 in Mifflin Co., PA and his DOD is DOD is 2/1881 in Tusc. County, OH. While in OH one of his sons (a Civil War vet) and my GGGrandfather, George H HARRIS was born on 1/1830 and died and is buried in Raglesville [Daviess County] IN on 2/1869. Before leaving OH, one of George H's sons were born, David H HARRIS on 1/1851 and moved with his brothers and sisters and parents to Daviess County and finally to Indianapolis where he died 7/1946. While the family was in Daviess County parts of the family spread out over the rest of "German Corners" in SW IN. Some of them moved to VIGO, MORGAN, MARTIN, OWEN, and GREENE counties. Whle in Odon, my GGrandfather owned the HARRIS House Hotel along with several blocks in the town. His brother Samuel Frederic !
HARRIS was a physcian there as well untill he passed away in the TB epidemic that washed through much of SW IN. The reason for contacting this Morgan County site is find cousins that we don't know about and since I have many old German Letters, Id be happy to share info. As the family continued to grow the married into many German/Swiss families....MAY(BACH), SOMMERS, WINKLEPLECK, RUFENACHT and CORRELL. Again, I'd be happy to share...my own 'brickwall" is HENRY HARRIS' parents. THank you...FRED HARRIS)

I am looking for information on the family of Reuben Harris. He married
Catherine Greeson. Both he and his wife were from North Carolina and moved to
Morgan Co., IN in the 1930s. He was born around 1818. He had children by the
names of:
John H.
Laura Elizabeth
George Washington
William Alfred
Otto
Gabriel
Mary
Alice
Sarah
James
There were several Harris families in the area. Unfortunately, I have run
into a brick wall in trying to locate additional information on him and his
family. One of his daughters moved to Oklahoma and another to Pennsylvania.
John lived in Martinsville. A couple of kids lived in Mooresville, I believe.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Louisa Jane Fultz, Miranda's sister, is my gggrandmother. I am searching
for any information on her and her family. Her daughter Martilla married my
ggrandfather William Phillips. Their daughter Winnie Laverna Phillips Collier
is my grandmother. My mother, Margaret Collier Allred, is one of Winnie
and Lawrence Collier's daughters. My email is _libros23(a)aol.com_
(mailto:libros23@aol.com) and I would be very interested in corresponding with anyone who
has family information they would like to share.

Hi Kari
I would be interested in the newspaper clippings. I would be happy to defray the costs of photocopying and postage.
My g. grandmother was Miranda Fultz Stafford (married to Grant Stafford). She was born in 1846 and died in 1940.
I wonder if your grandmother, Ruth, was Miranda's niece? Miranda's siblings were: Nancy, Louisa Jane, Rebecca Ann, George Washington, William, Soloman, Lucretia and Plena Emaline.
Were any of her brothers your ancestor?
Thanks

Maybe I'm just being picky, but does your post have anything to do with Morgan County Indiana? Wouldn't it be better posted to the Morgan Family Board?

Listing is by county, then person or persons, and then the date for land purchased other than a date of 1820. The 1820 Indian Boundary was changed after 1820 thus, many of these counties opened land up. The exceptions were Daviess and Martin which were lands ceded by the Indians in 1820. I am sure there is more that could be added and also that some names are duplicates of the 1820 information. However, it is a start.
Morgan, James, William, 1833
Monroe, Absolom (1836), Elijah James (1837), Elijah, Solomon (1839), Permeter (1839)
Vigo, Achilles 1854
Martin, Abel (unknown)
Daviess Jonathan (1815), Moses (1817), Josiah Wallace (1836), James 3 (1837), Jesse (1854)

These names were taken from the 1820 census.
Most of these counties were along the Ohio River with the exception of Boone, Washington, Dubois, and Jackson. It should be noted that all of these counties were outside of the 1820 Indian Boundary except Boone.
This sounds most interesting. Please share with the list. Thanks

Nathan and Sarah's ages in the 1830 census don't follow their reported birth dates, but that's not unusual. Is this the Nathan who served in the 5th VA in the War of 1812, ending as a Corporal? You might check for a pension record.
I wonder if Nathan is incorrectly identified in the 1840 Morgan County census as Nathan Lankford? He lived near Lankfords in 1830, so maybe there was an error. The family has the same number of members, and all but the boys' ages work, I think. Check it out and see what you think.
Probates are microfilmed at the Morgan County Public library. See their website. If you want information about this family published in the MORgan Co History and Genealogy newsletter, email me privately at sharonmills(a)insightbb.com.
