Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi Terry,
Your copy is secure. We do need members, because without memberships there would be no way to fund the newsletter. Most of the membership money goes into printing and mailing it. There are always other needs, of course. Right now we need to get some archival boxes for de-accessed county records and other items in storage.
That's important too.

Please reserve a book and CD of Morgan County History and Genealogy Association's reprint of Noah Majors' "Pioneers of Morgan County" for me.
Following the advice that I have seen exchanged this evening, I have mailed to the Morgan County History and Genealogy Association (MCHGA) my check for $35.50 to cover the of an annual membership in the MCHGA ($12.00) plus an out of state member's cost of Majors' reprint and the CD ($20.00 plus $3.50 shipping).
I am very excited about the prospect of receiving the reprint of Noah Majors' book. I have an early connection to Morgan County and Martinsville, in particular. According to Charles Blanchard’s Counties of Morgan, Monroe and Brown, Indiana, early residents of Martinsville met “. . . at the house of John Gray on March 1st 1822 to set the stake of the new county seat.” Also according to Blanchard, John Gray, along with Joel Ferguson, Jacob Cutler, Joshua Taylor and Samuel Scott, subsequently donated land in return for concessions for the location of the Morgan County seat at Martinsville, Indiana. John Gray was commissioned an Associate Judge of Morgan County on 13 March 1822 and served in that position until 1824 when he was replaced. He also sat on the first probate court which met 02 May 1822.
John Gray was my great, great, great, great grandfather.
Sharon,
Please reserve a copy for me too. I'm dropping a check in the mail
tomorrow. I agree with your comments about membership; it's valuable to
researchers of Morgan County history and genealogy.

This is Cleta Williams, I would like you to reserve me a copy of the book
and CD of Pioneers of Morgan County.
I will send a check in the morning, and I will send enough to become a

Look's like your e-mail is pretty busy.
Thank You Cleta
Got it. Thanks so much for ordering.

Bettye,
$28.50 is for non-members. It costs $12 per year to be a member of Morgan County History and Genealogy. If you are a member you get 4 newsletters per year that contain a lot of Morgan County historical information. You might choose to go that route and get more for your month. It would only cost you $7.00 more than just getting the book/CD as a non-member.
By the way, we look for family histories to publish. I don't recall anything already published on James or Carroll.

Hello,
Some of you may be interested in obtaining a reprint of the "Pioneers of Morgan County" by Noah Majors, first printed in 1915. The original books are no longer generally available. The Morgan County History and Genealogy Association has just gotten it from the printer. It's a soft cover 8 1/2 X 11 edition that we believe will hold up well, and it has an index that the original did not have. Many old Morgan County families are included, but I can't tell you which ones, as I don't have my copy yet. And I won't be able to do look-ups when I do get it.
If interested you can get a copy by sending a check to PO Box 1012 Martinsville 46151-0012. Prices depend on whether you are a MCHGA member, and if you are in or out of state. You can also elect to get a CD with your book, but you can't get the CD by itself.
Here are the options:
Book for Indiana resident nonmember is $20 plus $3.50 postage and $1.41 sales tax or $24.91 total.
Book and CD for same is $25 plus $3,50 postage plus $1.71 sales tax or $30.21 total.
Book for Out of State nonmember is $20.00 plus $3.50 postage or $23.50 total.
Book and CD for Out of State nonmember is $25.00 plus $3,50 postage or $28.50 total.
Book for Indiana resident member is $16.00 plus $3.50 postage and $1.17 sales tax or $20.67 total.
Book and CD for Indiana resident member is $20.00 plus $3.50 postage and $1.41 sales tax or $24.91 total.
Book for Out of State member is $16.00 plus $3.50 or $19.50 total.
Book and CD for Out of State member is $20.00 plus $3.50 postage or $23.50 total.
If you are local and want to pick up a copy with no shipping charges, they will be available on Thursday, November 30th at the MCHGA general meeting at the Morgan County Public Library in Martinsville or the following Saturday afternoon from 1-4 same location.
I hope that price structure is clear, and that you will buy a copy for yourself and some as gifts! This was a limited printing of 50. Happy reading!
Sharon Mills, President
MCHGA

This is a pitfall we have to avoid--for example, I have found that in Oklahoma, several of my ancestors were listed as "IT"--not Italy, it stands for "Indian Territory"!!! There are others that are more obscure than we might think at first.

I agree --- I believe that the census enumerator used the abbreviation Ia
and now we are reading it as IA which is what we use now, but he meant
Indiana.

I read your post and I believe that on some of the Morgan Co., Census that
alot of researchers are reading Iowa for the birth state. That Iowa is a
mistake, I know for a fact that my family that is listed was not born in
Iowa,but here in Morgan County.

Trying to find my Uncle John Hightower's grave site and info. Is there a web

Your best bet is to contact the Morgan Co. library at Martinsville. They
have a website or just google them. You can write to Patience who handles all
the genealogy question there. She is fast and has the data.
