I thought I would let people know that on the census on Ancestry.com for 1850 they list a persons birth place as Iowa if it has an IA in the place of birth. This is incorrect in most cases. All my relatives were in Green Township, Morgan County, Indiana, from 1830 to the 1850's all the children were born there and on the 1850 census it has IA as place of birth which stands for Indiana. I have talked to others where their family were all born in Indiana and on the 1850 censu it states IA as place of birth.
I just issued a similar warning on the Washington Co. Arkansas list. My
Lamb family moved from Monroe Co IN to Washington Co. AR and the 1850 census
puts the place of birth as Ia. It was apparently not an uncommon way to
abbreviate Indiana in those days.

I am looking for the death of some of the Bourn/Bournes that lived in Ray township in Morgan County. Is there somewhere they have these listed or cemetaries records? I am new to searching in Indiana.
I am looking for Elijah, Alexander and Susan Bourn/Bourne's deaths. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe this Edward Thacker is the son of Andrew Jackson Thacker and Angeline Elizabeth (Tompkins) Thacker. He was the eight of ten children. He is found in the 1900 Census, Martinsville, Washington Township, Morgan County, Indiana, ED 54, dwelling 759, family 820, page 34B, living with his mother, brother Cozzie, Edward's wife Cora, and their son Orville. According to Ancestry.com, Edward and Cora (Branham) were married in Morgan County on May 4, 1900. (Morgan County records, book C-5, page 330).
In the 1910 census his family is in Indiana, Morgan County, Washington Township, ED 68, family 140, page 7/182A.
In the 1920 census, Edward's widow (Cora) is found in Indiana, Marion County, Indianapolis, ED 207, dwelling 48, family 69, page 3/99A.
In the 1910 census the family had three children: Orval, Freddie, and another whose name I can't make out. In the 1920 census, Orville and Joe Irvin are shown as sons, but Freddie is gone, possibly dead.

Patrick,
Have you had anyone reply to your photo reply. If not, e-mail me. Some of those cemeteries have been restored by a lady, Helen Wildermuth, who lives in Martinsville, IN. She is the cemetery preservationist for Indiana and surrounding states. When she does her work, she photographs the stone before and after restoration, documents, and turns in copies to the DNR as well as the local cemetery usually requested by the county commissioners or someone in charge of the cemetery. She is a busy lady but will return your e-mail and you eventually will get your pictures. I am still waiting for my request but she knows I am in no hurry. Susan

I am looking for someone who knows anything on the family of Morgan from Morgan County. James and Sarah Clary Morgan had Calvin. Was he an only child? Calvin had Albert and Martha Morgan. Are there any children from these two siblings? Martha married a ? Washburn. Where did they go? Martha and Albert are buried with Calvin but there are no husbands or wives. Did the line stop there?

Can you tie to this Edward Thacker? I can't seem to find him on the census index records anywhere. I do find the children's births listed in 1901 and 1902 - both males - I'm trying to determine his wife's name.

Killed By An Interurban Car
Tragic Death Brother-in-Law Lonnie Branam
Lonnie Branam has been called to Martinsville by the tragic death of his brother-in-law Edward Thacker.
A dispatch says: Edward Thacker, age about 37, was instantly killed when struck by an interurban car earlier today near the Van Camp farm, near Martinsville. Davis Lancaster, motorman, saw the man some distance down the track, and sounded the whistle. Thacker walked to one side of the track, but when the car neared him he seemed to become confused and stepped back near the track. The car struck him on the left breast, knocking him about 20 feet to one side. His left collar bone and three ribs were broken. The car was stopped and the body was brought here. A widow and two children survive

I have not found any connection to either of those names, however my research has mostly been on the Gordon family and the Reeves who are descended from them.
What was the name of the Reeves woman who was buried in this cemetery?

George,
I saw your posting back in 1999 on Lees & had to respond.
I am descended from Henry (AKA Joseph) Lee & Martha Shuler.
I have a little bit of info on the Lees from a Ruby Shuler who was a school teacher in Paragon. From her info, Henty Lee's mother was an Elizabeth (B in NC) & only knew Elizabeth's husband as "Granddaddy" Lee who was born in NC also. They had 3 children:
Henry (Joseph)
Mary Ann Lee who married James Shuler
& another son "Double Thumb Dave" Lee.
Could it be that this Thomas you have for the land listing is related somehow? Perhaps a father of these children?
I hope to hear from you,
Sincerely,
Tammy Hoherz

I am looking for any info about the following people who lived in & around Martinsville & the Paragon area:
Inola Woods B 1873 D 1949 married to Edward Rutan. Inola's parents are:
Andrew J. Woods B Abt 1837 in IL (parents B in IN)
married to Elizabeth Clark B Abt 1840 in IN(Dad B in KY mom B in IN). Andrew & Elizabeth might have married in Owen County. I have located them in the 1880 Census in Salt Creek Twp,Jackson,IN.
I believe Andrew might have been eligible for a soldier's pension as there is one in Morgan Co. on the 1890 rolls.
Andrew & Elizabeth had the following children:
William E. "Bill", John C.,Rebecca J.,Mary F.,Henrietta,James J. & Nancy Ann.
Inola had told my grandmother that she had had 2 older sisters get married & move to Kansas in covered wagons.
There is also a family story about an Indian in the Woods family. Hope someone has some info!
