Hi, We are related. Your Douglas SHRAKE was the son of Lewis Washinton SHRAKE and Louana/Louwannah SPOON. I believe he was their second child.
Douglass married Flossie Dell ELKINS KING and they had Burrell/Burl, Richard and Raymond. She had a son (Orval KING) from a previous marriage. She died in 1918 from the Influenza epidemic (Spanish Flu). He then married Elma KING. I don't believe they had any children. I have some information on Burrell's family but not much else on this line yet.

Hi,
My SHRAKE line is actually through my SPOON line. I am not directly related to this line. My great great aunt Louana/Louwannah America SPOON married Louis Washington SHRAKE on 11 December 1884 in Clark County, Indiana. According to her obituary and other information I have, they had seven children: Mary(CARROL), Douglass, John, Vance, Lewis, Paul and Oneamel/Murell/Nemo.

And on the 1880 census for Morgan co. there is a Nettie McDonald listed as 11 years old as a servant living in the household of George Willington and Mary Willington. says her father was born in KY and mother IND.
could this be the same one as Jennetta since there is some that Call her both. Sue

I would suggest that you join the Quaker Roots list serve through rootsweb. It is a very active list with lots of help. Also, Tom Hamm, the curator of Earlham's library is one of the admininstrators of it. They would have many suggestions for you, if not specific details.

Yes, I am afraid even Quakers left each other. It was not something that might happen often but i have run across it.
They would be disowned by the chruch probably but it did happen. My gggrandmother threatened hers a few times.
But they stayed together. Depending on where you live now but the Plainfield and Indianapolis Library have a set of the records for Indiana and Va, NC Ohio, PENN, and small amount for NJ. They do not loan them out to other librarys but the website Quakers Corner does have a few family histories on it and i believe the Hardwicks is one of them.
I have never searched the Hardwicks past my Elizabeth. I don't even have her parents because He was only a brother to my ancestor and not my direct line. I was born and raised in Morgan co. Mooresville library has a set of the books also. so if you are close to any of these towns then you can get a look at them. In fact my brother used to be married to a Morgan from Morgan co. Good luck. Sue

Thanks for the tip. I have always thought that there was a Quaker connection. My GGgrandfather sent his son to a Quaker School and even paid another sum to them after the boy died as a donation. His brother, William, married a Quaker but I don't know if they were married in the church or apart. However, this lends itself to the belief that my GGGgrandfather married a Quaker. Here is the tricky part. Did Quaker wives ever leave their husbands? I have long suspected that his wife did leave him and I even have the name of who it could be. I just cannot prove it. I did go to the Quaker Library in Indiana only to find that the minutes of this congregation have been taken mysteriously. This was in Earlham College's extensive library. I am not sure where else to look for those notes. Someone in our distant family did say that we did not want to know who his wife was. What a mystery. Thank you for letting me know about William Jr. and his wife's potential Quakerism.
Susan

don't know if this will help or not but the Hardwick is an old quaker name and since they are in Morgan co it might not hurt to try the Quaker corners. Elizabeth Hardwick b 1743 probably in va married a Thomas Ballard and they had a son named Byrom who married Sarah Carson who ended up in Monrovia where their descendants probably still live so i would assume some of the Hardwick bunch might have also came to Indiana that way. The Ballards are my line. Sue

Sue, I don't have that exact combination, but I do have a person with several similarities to your information. I have a Mary Elizabeth Tackett, daughter of George P. Tackett and Jennetta A. I'm also researching some Morgan County Johnsons; specifically, Gideon
Johnson, who married first Delilah Hays (or Ross?), second Edith
Jessup. Their children were Mary, Joseph, William, David, Lydia,
Andrew, and Elzina (Delilah), and Thomas, Sylvester, George, Junius,
Robert, Samantha Jane, Leander, and Baron (Edith).
I'm sure Gideon is related to the other Johnsons in the area -- Edith's
sister married Thomas A. Johnson. He may be the Gideon Johnson who was
son of William Johnson & Sarah Bloxom.

Della's parents are Jeremiah Cohen and Pheriba Denny. Della's siblings are,
in order, Mary born 1879, Etta Grace born 1881, Della Catherine born 1884,
Rachel J. born 1887, Blance born 1890 and Alonzo born 1892. I am stuck on
Jeremiah Cohen's line. Pheriba was the daughter of Samuel Denny and Keziah
Burns. I am stuck on the Denny line. I can't even confirm the spelling of
the name. The Burns family line is huge and I will share all info that I
have. I would love to swap anything you have on the Cohens.
