Surname: Thompson
-------------------------
Hello Virginia,
There were THOMPSON's in the Green Township, Morgan County area as early
as 1850 or sooner.
My 3rd great grandmother was a Elizabeth Thompson (b: 1815 KY) who married
Nathan Perry (b: 1811 KY). They are listed in the 1850 census. I am descended
through their son Thomas Perry (b: 1850-1926).
I do not know who Elizabeth's brother's or sister's were or who her parents
were. However, I believe the Perry's, Thompson's and Pierce may have emigrated
from KY to Indiana.
The Perry's came from NC prior to KY.
There is a Thompson Cemetery in Greentownship (Banta, Ind ?)
grave markers registered at the Martinsville Public Library.
Any information on the "Thompson" surname is most appreciated.

You might try a local funeral home. At least, they would know
who had interment records. The Martinsville and Mooresville
libraries have surveys from many years ago.
I have several relatives with graves there. The earliest burial
among them is 1918. There are older graves in the southwest
portion.

Hello Tracy,
"East Hill Cemetery", also know as "Morgantown" in Jackson Township (Section
24, T11N R2E. North side of SR 252/135, east of Highland St in Morgantown).
The grave markers are registered at Morgan County Public Library. Also when
you enter the cemetery there is a a small office which usually has a clerk on
duty, they may also have records as this cemetery is rather new compared to
most. I believe the cemetery was established in the late 1960's or early
1970's.
Here are some web sites that you may found interesting as well:

Jim, Recently as I was trying to find some linkage to my line of Whetstines in Martinsville and Morgantown, I was headed east out of Martinsville on Hwy 252 toward Morgantown. As I was zipping along the hwy, a road sign caught my eye, to the left, with the name Whetstine. As you might know, I promptly turned around and returned to Pete Whetstine Road. And Travelled along it taking pictures of the street signs. What a day that was. This week I visited the Morgan County Clerks office and obtained copies of plats which list Pete Whetstine Road and the location of the land granted to many of the county residents. I have copies of the 1907; 1896 and one other plat. I am willing to share. So you have the original land grant. Do you know of Perry C. Whetstine and how is he related to you? I am very interested in connecting with our various cousins. I have been gone from Indiana for about 38 years and one of my passions upon returning is to trace the Whetstines and the K!
noys, my maternal family line, in Morgan Co. Please email me at barbarargeorge(a)hotmail.com and lets share info. I am so excited!!!! By the way, there was 4.75 acres of raw land for sale on Pete Whetstine Road, east side on a hill, in case you are interested. Thanks, Barbara George
Morgan County cousins...
My Whetstine family goes back many generations in Morgan County. My
grandfather , Clarence "Pete" E. Whetstine was the last Whetstine resident
on the land granted to his greatgrandfather by the government. I am told
that the old road which led to the farm was renamed "Pete Whetstine Road".
Is anybody familiar with this, or might be willing to look it up on a
street map? Their farm was just west of Morgantown. I have purchased a
topographical map of this area and I'd like to be able to 'see' the old
homestead on my map. I have a copy of the land grant and I was able to
locate the section and quarter on the map, but I'd like to verify that this
is, indeed, the place where he lived.
Thanks much.

My elusive SKINNER sibling......I can't find Melvena {also see as Melissa
& Melvina) SKINNER b. ca1849-51 after the 1880 census.
Melvena SKINNER was born Garrard Co.KY most likely. As I first found her
listed
with her parents: Clark SKINNER b. 1794 KY and Lucinda "Susanna" unknown b.
ca1812-20 KY. on the 1850 Garrard Co.KY census....she was the youngest of
their 9
children.....then I found her on the 1860 census in Greene Co.IN in Beech
Creek Twp.
living with her widowed mother "Susanna" and some of the other children. She
was not living with her Mother and brother on the 1870 census in Beech Creek
Twp. Next time I found her she was living with her brother David J. SKINNER
and wife Hamey Loruh LIVINGSTON in Clay Twp. Owen Co.IN. on the 1880 census
and after that I can find no trace of her. Does anyone know what happened
to Melvena SKINNER who was unmarried in 1880 and 29 years old according to
the census records? Some records show her middle initial to be F. I'm open
for any suggestions.....I have checked cemetery listings in Owen Co. and
marriages none found, also checked in Monroe and Greene Co’s.
Thanks,
