A Steam Boat Captain's visit.
Capt. Jesse Mefford, of Quincy, Ill., who has been visiting the families of
R. L. Stephens and C. C. Mefford, went to Franklin this noon to spend the
remainder of the week with relatives. Capt. Mefford owns a steam boat on the
Mississippi river. He spent ten days recently in rescuing flood sufferers.
Capt. Mefford states that in some instances he took people out of the attic
of their homes, saving them from watery graves. He says the suffering
resulting from the flood beggars description.
