Peru Man Shoots Self Fatally
Arthur CONFER, 49, of 263 West Tenth, died by his own hand at his home at 4:15pm
Wednesday. A former taxi driver, he had been unemployed recently.
Shortly before shooting, he told his mother, Mrs. Twila CONFER he was going to town. He
walked a block away and returned home to his room.
His mother found him after hearing a blast from a .410 gauge shotgun. Death resulted from
a shotgun wound in the head. his act was attributed to despondency. Police and Coroner
Dr. O B JOHNSON investigated.
Mr. CONFER has spent his lifetime here.
He was born in Miami County April 30, 1910, the son of Alpha C and Twila (SLUSHER)
CONFER. He was married in 1935, to Mary Jane PATTERSON, who died in 1951. Surviving are
the mother, who made her home with her son; two brothers, Clayson of Grand Fork, ND and
John CONFER, of Burbank, California and a sister Miss Mary Louise CONFER, Logansport. One
brother is deceased.
Mr. CONFER was a member of the Eagles Lodge.
Funeral Services will be from the Drake-Flowers Chapel at 2pm Saturday. The Rev. Gerald
Kreh will officiate and burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico. Friends may call at
the funeral home after 10am Friday.
