Plane Crashes at Peru Airport, 2 Slightly Hurt
An Indianapolis pilot and a Peru man were slightly injured when their plane crashed at the
Peru Airport at 3:34pm Wednesday.
Carl REDMON, 43, of 22 York and Maurice WRIGHT, 54, the pilot, Indianapolis, suffered
skinned noses from the glasses they were wearing and bumps on their heads.
Two other passengers, Morris WARD, 39, Indianapolis, and Clarence CARR, Brownsburg, were
not injured. They are air traffic controllers at Weir Cook Airport, Indianapolis.
Officers said Wright was landing on the north-south runway and misjudged the field. The
plane dropped short of the runway and nosed over into plowed field.
The single-engine plane, a 1949 Beechcraft Bonanza, skidded 40 feet on its nose to the
runway and then slid 120 feet on the runway.
Damage to the plane, owned by the Wright Tool and Die Co., Indianapolis, was estimated at
between $1,500 and $2,000. The propeller, nose, wheel, and front engine mount were
damaged.
Wright, the operator of the WRIGHT firm, was flying REDMON back to Peru when the mishap
occurred, according to State Trooper Ward Gillan, the investigating officer.
This is the second airplane accident in which REDMON has been involved recently. The
front and wing of his plane were damaged in a landing accident at a Chicago airport about
three weeks ago. He was not injured at that time.
The Sheriff's Department was also called to the accident scene.
