Hi -
I hope that someone can give me some advice. My ancestor was married in Miami County in
mid-1883, and married to her 2nd husband in Miami County in mid-1884. After her second
husband's death, she applied for a Civil War widow's pension based on the second
husband's service, and in her pension application, indicated tht she had been divorced
from her first husband.
I wrote to the Miami County Clerk's Office a number of years ago asking about this
divorce, and was told that one could not be found. However, I spoke to some Peru folks
since then who do genalogical research and told me that divorce records from this time
period likely are stored offsite and are available to check by appointment only.
Can someone give me some specific advice about checking for this divorce record, either
myself, or by mail/email? Do I need to make an appointment? Is the office where this
record would be stored only open on certain days of the week, etc.?
Thanks for any advice.
