Hi Dixie:
Yeah, it's a tough call, there are so many of the same names back then. My
Sallie or Sarah could have been also called Sadie. I also saw a few other
Ben Franklins as well. There maybe even 2 John W. Reder's but mine is
buried with my grandpa, in Bunker Hill Indiana, which I did see. The Ahnentafel,
(which I did not compile) listed are:
Benjamin Franklin Utter, born April 11 1810 Ontario Canada, died 3 Feb
1866 Miami, Indiana, Buried in Chittuck cemetery, Deercreek twp, Miami,
Indiana..
Was the son of James B. Utter and Catherine Wheeler.
Married Ann Eliz Flinn, born April 11 1815 Hamilton Co. Ohio.
Children of Benjamin Franklin Utter and Ann Eliz Flinn are:
Susan Eliz Utter born 1833 Indiana, married, Jacob Byers.
James F. Utter
Nancy Jane Utter
Sarah Utter, born 1841 in Miami City She married John W. Reder 19 Jul
1863, in Miami In.
(Obviously this I thought could be could be her )
Emeline Ann Utter Born 30 Jan 1843 in Miami City In. died 8 Jul 1917
Indiana.
(This would be your ancestor & Sarah's younger sister)
Hannah Utter
William M. Utter born 1848 Miami City, Indiana. Married Mary Stevenson.
(the William on the 1880 census & Emeline's younger brother)
And
John F. Utter
and so on I have another one back to Jeremiah Utter and Phebe Knight. Now
this is some else's Ahnentafel, but was only using as a guide to check to
see if the relations were mine. I know they can be wrong or not a relation,
and that is why I have not listed them on my genealogy program.
I also have a census from 1850, Johnson county which lists Benjamin F.
Utter with all the children in the house, starting with the oldest , Susan 17
years old. If this is your line I can send you this.
Mainly have been looking for the elusive Sarah~Sallie, which has been
difficult. I think she passed away shortly after this census or they got
divorced, but still no record of that either. I will keep exploring till I have
more definitive proof. I thought I'd see if anyone had any other leads to go
on. I have hit my brick wall on this one.
Thank You,
Betty

Wow, I'm not sure. Benjamin was such a common name at the time. I
actually have four or five Benjamin Franklin Whatevers in my lineage from that
era. Utter, however, is not so much. I don't have a William or a Meary.
It's definitely worth exploring.

Hi Dixie,
Yep, that's the one!!! I could be wrong about the Sallie ~Sarah
connection,
but that's the line. She married John W. Reder or Reeder in Miami county
Indiana in 1863 and had my grandpa Frank Ulysses in 1865.
Her birth year was 1839-40 in Miami Indiana. The clue I have been working
is not proof positive but more than not, is a census from 1880 of Sallie
and
John W. living in Deercreek township Miami county. Then on same page
Benjamin. Now is that proof, maybe not, but it is pure coincidence then.
There
is also a William Utter listed with wife Meary and a son.
Please let me know what you think or if not. Very exciting if it is!!!
Thanks,
Betty Lewon

I have a Benjamin Franklin Utter in my lineage. He is my
ggg-grandfather.
He was born 4/11/1810 in Ontario, NY and died 2/3/08 in Miami Co. He is
buried in the Chittuck Cemetery. I do not have a Sallie listed as his
child but I may not have them all. I have Susan, Emmaline, John, and
Laura.
Emmaline is my ancestor. Any matches there?
Good luck with your search.

I have a couple people for you to ask about Sarah Utter.
Try: _betbill2(a)aol.com_ (mailto:betbill2@aol.com) and
_dragonheart1(a)comcast.net_ (mailto:dragonheart1@comcast.net)
Both of these people have info in
Ancestry.com.

Sorry my mistake, was it the paper that burned years ago, anyway I knew
that something had burned? I live in the west and have only visited
there
once. That IS my great grandfather as well as other members of my
family
buried there, but have been unable to find Sallie or Sarah at all. I
have
lots
of info on him, as well as my gg-grandpa, but still need that pivotal
info
on her.
Thank you for your reply, I will keep researching and hope something
turns
up.

Betty,
The Miami County Courthouse did NOT burn. The State of Indiana did
not
have
government-generated birth or death records until 1882. You didn't say
when
your great-grandparents were born. Could John W. Reder have served in
the
Civil War? There is a John W. Reder interred in Springdale Cemetery
near
Bunker Hill with an undated military marker.
Alternate names for Sally could be Sarah or Sadie and Reder is often
misspelled Reeder or Reader. Don't ignore the alternates when
searching.

Hi ,
I know I have posted this a fews years ago, but want to give it a shot
again. My great-grandfather John W. Reder was married to a Sallie
Utter,
or
Uter, who would be my great-grandmother. I have tried to find her place
of
burial, headstone or even mention of her death, but I have been unable
to
locate anything. I think she may have died before 1882 as the
courthouse
in
Miami county burned and the records were destroyed.
I know there has got to be some mention of her somewhere in a document
or
family info.
Her father was possibly Benjamin Utter. I would appreciate any info.
Thank You,
Betty Lewon
