Here is what I have on the name Southerton. It is not much but maybe it
will help.
Hiram Smith born 1807 married in1827 to Pleasant (Plessy) Weaver. She
was said to have been an Indian . Pleasant died in 1866. They moved from
Washington County , Pennsylvania to near Gilead, Indiana in Miami county in
1844. Their children were:
1 John b. 1827 married Mary Ash lived near Chili, Indiana and he was a
carpenter.
2 Solomon born 3-5-1833 died 1907 married Elizabeth Davis born 1838 died
1895 solomon was a farmer.
3 Adam W. born 1842 died 1875 he never married. Served in the Civil
ar( Volunteer Feb 8, 1865 to serve 1 year ) Died July 23, 1875 in
Cumberland Hospital, Nashville, Tennessee. Buried in a woods No. of Gilead
grave is unmarked. Co."C"- 51at Rgt., Infantry, Indiana Volunteers
4 Joseph born 1844 married Mary Clingenpeel lived in
Denver, Indiana (Civil War Veteran)
5 Margaret married John Powell, lived around Macy and Gilead Indiana
6 no name given in notes. She married Hank Southerton lived around Macy,
Indiana
Note: Corporal Adam W. Smith is buried in woods on W. side of Miami Co.,
Rd. 100 E. and on N. side of Miami County Rd. 1500 N.
