First, I want to thank you for the work that you do. I enjoy reading the posts, even
though they have nothing to do with my family.
I'm wondering if you could possibly help me. My great grandfather was Alpha Buckley.
He lived in Peru from approximately from at least 1850 until he died in 1874. His
wife's name was Elizabeth (1817-93) and they had seven children; Joseph (1837-?),
Milton (1842-?), Benjamin (1847-?), Laura (1853-?), Oscar (1858-1917), Edgar (1860-1947)
(my grandfather), and Andrew (1870-?). Elizabeth died 5 Feb 1893 in Logansport.
I've hit a brick wall with Alpha. I have been unable to locate his birth information
other than that he was apparently born in Virginia. I do know that he was a member of the
first Peru City Council, 2nd Ward, when the City was incorporated in 1867. Since he was
in politics, I'm thinking there might be some information about him in the local
newspaper. He was on the council again in 1874.
Since he was in politics, there may be some information about him in the local newspaper.
If there is anything you could do to help me, it would be greatly appreciated. Likewise,
if there is anything an out-of-towner like me could do to help you with transcription,
I'd be glad to do it.
Best regards,
Mike Buckley

Thanks Mike!
I'll check and in any case will keep my eyes open for that name.
I wonder if there are other microfilms of these newspapers that we could borrow in a
FHC... Any idea who to contact to find out?
