Died:
At his residence in Kokomo, on Friday March 6th, Charles R Pew, aged 31 years.
His remains brought to Peru for interment and his funeral attended on Sunday by a large
number of friends and acquaintances. The deceased resided in this city for some years
before the war and was employed as a clerk both by Mr Crowell and Mr Shirk. He enlisted
in Company "A" of the 20th Regiment - serving some time as a non-commissioned
officer and finally promoted to lieutenancy. Being severely wounded in the Battle of Bull
Run, he was compelled to resign and return home. Since the war closed he has been in the
employ of the American Express Company, either as messenger or local agent.
Mr Pew was a young man of generous and noble impulse and possessed superior business
qualifications. As a companion he was genial and social while fidelity to employers and
untiring energy in the discharge of the sympathy of a large circe of friends in this
city.
