The business before this tribunal has been exceedingly dull for the last week - only 2
criminal cases desposed of.
Reuben Jones - for driving a vicious cow against the persons of Eliza and Eunice
Dingman, was fined and costed in the sum of $11.15. Reuben is a butched and drives his
"beef" on the streets rather recklessly.
A widow "about 70 years of age" was arraigned on the affidavid of her
son-in-law for an assault and battery upon his person. the young man had gone to her
house and called her names - not pet names - whereupon the old lady pommeled him slightly
with an iron poker.
The jury deliberated only one minute and returned the vedict of not guilty.
We are informed by a City official that if the Marshall would serve a few of the
warrants he has been carrying in his pocket for some weeks, the demands of justice would
be better satisfied and the amount of crime considerably abated.
