They must have remarried ten years after the divorce.
Are you saying there is no record of this Kelly marriage in Miami Co prior
to 1857?
The closest thing I see on the IN State Library early marriages database is
a Miami Co marriage for Amos APPLETON and Hannah Ann SAVILLA in 1847.
Heneretta (the spelling used throughout the body of the complaint) must have
been living in Miami Co in 1857, as the sheriff signed he was able to
deliver the summons.
I posted the url for this document to my Shelby Co people also. Maybe
someone from Shelby Co will recognize Thomas. We have always had many
KELLYs here in Shelby Co, but the APPLETON name doesn't show up until the
late 1800s.
Thanks for responding. Makes this more interesting! I have some
KELLY-FLEMING-RIFFENBERRICK families that moved between Tippecanoe, White,
Carroll and Miami Cos in the mid 1800s, so this case caught my eye when I
was going through the old papers in the vault.

I found the following record in the Shelby Co IN Clerk's vault. Can
anyone
identify any of the people?

Something is screwy about that court (divorce) entry--or about the record
of
marriage I found. The divorce hearing was in Shelby Co in 1857,
saying
they
had been married in Miami Co. According to the WPA vital records,
Thomas
Kelly & Henrietta Appleton were married 5 Aug 1867 in Cass Co, which is on
the west border of Miami Co. It could be they didn't know/remember which
county they were married in, but can't think of anyway to account for an
1857
divorce hearing for a 1867 marriage!--except a mistranscription of
the
marriage date.
