Ercell H. Sagester, 95, formerly of Bunker Hill, passed away at 5:10 p.m.

Friday, April 22, 2005 at Miller's Merry Manor, Peru, of natural causes.
She was born on August 4, 1909 in Cass County to Elmer and Sarah Rose
(Sullivan)
Robbins, and married Charles J. Sagester on July 12, 1930.
Sagester was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church, Peru,
Women's
Missionary Society of the Church, and served as church deacon.
She is survived by her sister, Opal Hendrickson and husband Ray, Elkhart;
nieces,
Linda Pownall and husband Wayne, Peru, Lisa Hardwick, Peru, and Pat
Arthur, Ft. Wayne; nephew, Mick Taylor, Twelve Mile; several great-nieces
and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Sagester was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother,
Raymond
Robbins; and one sister, Marilyn Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Eikenberry-Eddy
Funeral
Home, Peru, with the Reverend Robert Adelsperger officiating.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Aaron David Black, 33, Salem, Va., formerly of Peru, passed away Saturday,
April
23, 2005 at his residence.
He was born May 2, 1971 in Peru to Wayne A. and Linda Washburn Black.
Black was valedictorian of Peru High School in 1989, and graduated Summa
Cum Laude
from Purdue University in 1995 with a degree in health promotion
and athletic training. He was employed as an athletic trainer at the Roanoke
Athletic Club and Franklin County, Va. high school.
He also enjoyed mountain bike riding, horseback riding and living in the
mountains
of Virginia.
Survivors include his parents, Fred and Linda Whicker, Tipton, Wayne and
Berta
Black, and George Beresh, all of Peru; a daughter, Ashley Kayanne
Black, Peru; a brother, Adam Black and wife Cindy, Longview, Texas; a niece,
Alexandra Black; a nephew, Kyle Black; maternal grandparents, Jack and
Eileen Washburn, Rochester; and paternal grandparents, Carl Black, Kokomo,
Lucille Huddleston and Gertrud Thurston, both of Peru.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Eikenberry-Eddy
Funeral Home,
Peru, with Chaplain Steve Fleck officiating. Burial will be in
Ever Rest Memorial Park, Logansport. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m.

Teresa Durkes Knotts, 53, Peru, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 24,
2005 at
St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
She was born June 24, 1951 in Muncie to Clyde E. and Essie Marie Hancock
Stiles.
She married Gary L. Durkes Sept. 18, 1977 at First Baptist Church,
and he preceded her in death May 8, 1994. She then married Anthony A. Knotts
July 7, 2001 at First Baptist Church, and he preceded her in death July 21,
2003.
Knotts graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1969, and Ball State
University in 1973, receiving her master's degree from Ball State in 1988.
She taught English at North Miami High School and was a member of First
Baptist Church, Peru, the National Council of Teachers of English, Indiana
Council of Teachers of English, County Friends Extension Homemakers Club,
Indiana Farmers Union, Indiana Farm Bureau and North Miami Education
Association.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel Durkes, Peru, Marcus Knotts and wife
Jackie,
Indianapolis, and Kristopher Knotts and wife Christina, Whitestown;
a daughter, Stephanie Knotts-Wagner and husband Tait, Darlington; a
mother-in-law, Georgia Durkes, Peru; and a granddaughter, Lehna Marie
Wagner.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist
Church, Peru,
with Pastors Robert Adelsperger and Curryanne Hostetler
officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru, Visitation will be
from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru. Memorial
contributions may be made through the funeral home to First Baptist Memorial
Scholarship Fund or Miami County 4-H Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Miller's Merry Manor.
She was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Miami County to Merl C. and Dessie Zehner
Correll.
She married Walter B. Cox in 1951, and he preceded her in death
Nov. 13, 1978.
Cox was a homemaker and a charter member of First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Cox, Alabama; a grandson, Tim Allen,
Alabama;
two granddaughters, Teresa Green, Tennessee, and Tammy Hall and
husband Jim, Peru; a brother, Brace "Brady" Correll and wife Phyllis, Peru;
two sisters, Freda Awker and Ruth Radel, both of Peru; two sisters-in-law,
Florence and Louise Correll, both of Peru; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Orlie
"Bud" Correll and Donald C. Correll.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Church of the
Nazarene, with
Pastor Tony Winter officiating. Burial will be in Criders
Chapel Cemetery, Miami County. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of

Fines Franklin Ashlock 70

Fines Franklin Ashlock 70, Frankfort, passed away at 2:37 p.m. Sunday,
April 24,
2005 at Milner Nursing Home, Rossville.
He was born Nov. 7, 1935 in Tompkinsville, Ky. to Walton Marion and Mattie
Lucille
Cable Ashlock. He married Bonnie Cooper-Curnutt, but they divorced.
He then married Alice Copeland, and she preceded him in death Jan. 14, 1999.
Ashlock had worked at Peru City Power & Light from March 10, 1968 to Feb.
20,
1998 when he retired. He had lived in Frankfort until 1968 when he moved
to Peru, and lived in Peru until a year ago when he moved back to Frankfort.
Ashlock did farm work for several years around Clinton County, and had
worked for Frankfort Rendering Co. before moving to Peru.
Survivors include a son, Junior Ashlock and wife Mary, Frankfort; four
sisters,
Dorothy Rader and husband Jake, Monticello, Olene Anderson,
Galaton, Tenn., Evadean Bellamy and husband Bert, Clay County, and Virginia
Lovingood, North Carolina; two brothers, Roy Ashlock and wife Margaret,
Frankfort, and Tom Black and wife Marge, Peru; two grandchildren, Todd
Ashlock and Christy Hall, both of Frankfort; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother, Lawrence Ashlock.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. today at Genda Funeral Home, Frankfort.
Burial
will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru. Calling will be from 5 to 7
p.m. today at the funeral home and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Hope

Dr. Russell A. Eckert, 80

Dr. Russell A. Eckert, 80, Logansport, passed away at 7:30 p.m. on
Thursday, April
21, 2005 at Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne.
He was born on March 19, 1925 in Cincinnati to Russell Webster and Ivy Mae
(Buchtman) Eckert.
Dr. Eckert married Norma Lee Walker on November 7, 1947 in Indianapolis.
He was a Logansport resident since 1955, and was retired from Associated
Radio-logists. During his career he served as a physician for the U.S.
Navy - attached to the U.S. Marines, and with hospitals serving Cincinnati,
Chicago, Marion, Logansport, Peru, Monticello, Rochester, Winamac, and
Bunker Hill/Grissom Air Reserve Base.
Dr. Eckert was certified by the American Board of Radiology, and was a
member of
the Society of Nuclear Medicine, American College of Radiology,
Indiana Roentgen Society, and Chicago Roentgen Society.
The graduate of Thomas Carr Howe High School, Indianapolis, was a double
track
student and graduated from both Indiana University and Indiana
University School of Medicine in 1947. He served a residency of radiology at
Northwestern University in Chicago.
Dr. Eckert was a member of the Irvington Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis
Scottish Rite,
and the Indianapolis Murat Temple. He was a U.S. Navy veteran
having served during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 3790, the American Legion Post 60, and the Logansport
Elks.
Dr. Eckert enjoyed meeting people and exploring places with his wife and
children,
exhibiting the propensity throughout his life to learn as much as
he could and to prejudge no one. He never pretended to be anything or anyone
he wasn't, and yet was reluctant to accept accolades for his
accomplishments. His family loves him dearly and respects him absolutely.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Todd E. Eckert, Indianapolis, and
Scott R.
Eckert and wife Nancy, Portland, Oregon; daughter, Cynthia L.
Hansen and husband Niels, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren,
Emily L. Hansen, Mechanicsburg, Caitlin C. Hansen, East Lansing, Michigan,
and Karsten E. Hansen, Mechanicsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Drew Walker Eckert,
who
passed away on June 23, 1979.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal
Church,
Logansport, with the Reverend Father Frank King officiating.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
Visitation will be today at Kroeger Funeral Home, Logansport, from 9:30 to
10:30
a.m.
