Donald E. Kunkle, 82

Donald E. Kunkle, 82, Peru, passed away at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Dukes
Continuing Care, Peru. He was born in Bunker Hill on July 28, 1922 to Elmo and Grace
(Beck) Kunkle, and was an engineer for Beloit Corporation.
Kunkle married Caroline Gordon in August of 1948, and she passed away on January 1, 2002.
He served as a pilot in the United States Army and Air Force during World War II, reaching
the rank of lieutenant.
He is survived by two sons, Steven Kunkle, Camarillo, California, and Jeffrey Kunkle,
Beloit, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Jeffrey, and Jamie; and three
sisters, Rheua Stouder, Indianapolis, Cleo Hammond, Peru, and Betty Johnson, Houston.
A private funeral service will be conducted with the Dukes Memorial Hospital chaplain
officiating.
Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.
There is no visitation scheduled.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Dukes Memorial Hospital.
Arrangements are being handled by Allen Funeral Home, Bunker Hill.
Carl R. "Dick" Weinke, 83

Carl R. "Dick" Weinke, 83, Peru, passed away at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 28,
2005 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital, Kokomo.
He was born in Peru on August 14, 1921 to Carl and Velma (Wolfe) Weinke, and married Julia
Caldwell on November 1, 1953 at the Oakdale Baptist Church.
The lifelong Peru resident retired from Square D Company on December 31, 1986, and
attended Oakdale Baptist Church. He was a 1938 Peru High School graduate, and served in
the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II from November 29, 1944 to
October 25, 1946.
Weinke served on the Peru School Board from July 1, 1964 to January 1, 1968; the Peru
Common Council from January 1, 1968 to December 31, 1979, including as chairman from 1972
to 1979; as interim mayor during May 1978; as Washington Township trustee from 1985 to
1987; and as city engineer/building inspector from January 1, 1988 to December 31, 1991.
Weinke very much enjoyed playing golf in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife; one son, David Weinke and wife Cynthia, Plano, Texas; three
daughters, JoAnne Joyce and husband Robert, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Melanie Bellock and
husband George, Warrenville, Illinois, and Stacey Mannies and husband Gary, Carmel; and
one brother, Kenneth Weinke and wife Dorothy, California; eight grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home,
Peru, with the Reverend Dr. Robert Stuck officiating.
Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oakdale Baptist Church.
There will be a military committal service at the cemetery.
