Theresa Gail Cunningham, 55
Wednesday, June 22, 2005 1:11 AM EDT
Theresa Gail (Ransom) Cunningham, 55, went home to the Lord on June 16, 2005.
Born on Nov. 6, 1949 in Detroit, Mich., Gail and her family moved to Florida when she was
very young. She grew up in Cocoa Beach during the height of the "space race,"
and when surfing was gaining popularity. She graduated from Cocoa Beach High School in
1967, and attended Brevard Junior College.
Gail married Michael Cunningham in Cocoa Beach on Dec. 3, 1983. Gail and Michael met while
working for the city of Cape Canaveral, where they both became volunteer firefighters.
Michael was an Air Force officer and together they lived in Europe, traveling to Germany,
France, Italy, Austria and Czechoslovakia, before retiring in Peru.
In 1993, with a strong faith in Jesus Christ, the support of family and friends, Gail
began a cancer battle of 12 long years. During this time, Gail and Michael hosted ten high
school foreign exchange students. Gail loved life and the Lord Jesus Christ. Her attitude
was shown in her many friendships that she made so easily. Her love of family and friends
was expressed by her open-minded willingness to talk about anything and everything. She
was a great Mom and mentor to students from all over the world. Gail loved working with
the kids and watching them grow. Through all the ups and downs, Gail stayed busy. She
loved gardening, crochet, genealogy, cooking, computers, dining out and kitties. She loved
her Callie, Choo-Choo and Scooter.
Gail is survived by her husband, Michael Cunningham; her mother and father, Patricia and
Carl Ransom, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and a brother, Kim Ransom, Oviedo, Fla.
She was predeceased by her natural father, Steve Slatina, an uncle; Phillip Slatina; and
her grandmother, Helen "Hado" Pope-Whitely, in 2004.
Gail is already missed by her many family and friends, and knowing Gail - she is already
feeling better and new, visiting old family and friends in a new home built just for her.
What a reunion that will be when we can all be together again! Praise the Lord.
A Memorial celebration will be held at Eagles Nest Christian Fellowship, 2345 Randolph
St., Peru (Grissom Aeroplex), by Pastor Jim Thomas on Thursday at 6 p.m. Donations may be
