The Carlisle Indian School was in Carlisle, PA. Some of the Miamis from
Indiana may well have been sent there. Seems I remember the policy was to
send
the children away from their home area--probably so it wouldn't
be so
tempting &
easy to run away.
The school that Meta is referring to (near LaFontaine) is what used to be
called White's Institute and which if I remember correctly is now called
White's
Family Services or something similar. Whether or not it went by some
other
name when first started, I don't know, but do know it was started
as a
school
for Indian children. Whether records still exist from the earliest
era
(with
Indian children) I don't know--and if so, I don't know where
they are.
However,
if you don't get an answer to that from anyone else, contact me
directly,
Meta, and I'll call a friend who lives near White's and whose parents were
closely connected with it(as Board members) since about 1930 until their
deaths.
