LaVerne "Nana" Perzo, 81, Lowell, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2005.
She was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, Gary, and Gary Methodist
Nursing School. She was a retired registered nurse, and worked for 23 years
at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Dyer.
Perzo was a member of Tri Kappa and the Red Hat Society in Lowell.
She is survived by one son, Dennis Perzo and wife Nancy, Bloomington, Ill.;
one daughter, Luan Brown and husband Ron, Lowell; two grandchildren, Megan
Brown Thomas and husband Nathan, Lowell, and Ryan Brown, a sophomore at
Purdue University; one brother, Jim Allison and wife Linda, Peru; and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; and one sister, Marjorie.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sheets Funeral Home, 604
E. Commercial Ave., Lowell, with Pastor Jeff Newton officiating. A private
family burial will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary. Friends may call Friday
from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be given to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation,

George Richard Cumberland, 81

George Richard Cumberland, 81, Warsaw, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Monday,
March 21, 2005 at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, Fla. He was a
lifetime area resident and had wintered in Bradenton, Fla. for the last 18
years.
He was born on Jan. 13, 1924 in Miami County to Walter and Blanche Hanson
Cumberland. He married Dorothy E. Walters on Nov. 3, 1946 in Van Wert, Ohio,
and she survives.
He was a traffic coordinator for RR Donneley & Sons in Warsaw, where he
worked 24 years; he also was a farmer, a member of the Trinity United
Methodist Church, Warsaw; the Warsaw Kiwanis where he had been past
president and was very active; the Masonic Lodge # 73, Warsaw; and a 1942
Beaver Dam High School graduate who attended every alumni banquet.
Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Diane K. Cumberland,
Houston, Texas, and Brenda Deardorff, Warsaw; three grandchildren, Kristin
Silveus and husband Tyson, Warsaw, Kelly Michell and husband Don, Fort
Wayne, and Derrick Deardorff, West Lafayette; three great-grandchildren,
Caden Silveus and Weber and Emma Michell; one sister, Mary Horn and husband
Eldon, Warsaw; and one brother, Loren Cumberland and wife Betty, Claypool.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth and Evelyn Cumberland; and six
brothers, Paul, Walter, Vernon, Eldon, Frank and Warren Cumberland.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home,
Mentone, with the Rev. David Overmyer officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood
Cemetery, Warsaw. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral
home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist
Church, Kosciusko County Hospice or Riley Hospital for Children.
Lucille M. Hoagland, 91

Lucille M. Hoagland, 91, Mexico, passed away at 7:37 p.m. Wednesday, March
23, 2005 at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Peru.
She was born on Feb. 21, 1914 in Peru to Walter E. and Goldie Miller. She
married Harry D. Hoagland in Peru on May 23, 1936, and he preceded her in
death on Nov. 12, 1996.
Hoagland graduated from Peru High School and Ball State University. She
taught third grade at St. Charles Catholic School from 1960 until her
retirement in 1977. In addition, she was a member of St. Charles Catholic
Church, the Daughters of Isabella, the Altar & Rosary Society and was a
lifelong resident of Miami County.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Hoagland and wife Teresa, Texas, and
James W. Hoagland, Ohio; three daughters, Martha L. Flach and husband
William, Ohio, Mary V. Bowman and husband Bill, Indiana, and Jane A.
Rosemarin and husband Dick, Florida; one sister, Martha Lynch,
Massachusetts; one brother, John A. Miller, Indiana; 17 grandchildren; 20
great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren on the way.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers
and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles
Catholic Church, with the Rev. Francis I. Kilcline III officiating. Burial
will be at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Peru. Visitation will be from 3 to
7 p.m. Monday at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. A prayer service will be at 7
p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made through
the funeral home to St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Pauline M. Swoverland, 86, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Peabody
Retirement Community, North Manchester.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Arcola United Methodist
Church, 11311 Arcola Road, Fort Wayne, where friends may call from 10 to 11
a.m. Graveside committal services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Greenlawn
Cemetery, Mexico. Preferred memorials are to Arcola United Methodist Church.
Arrangements were handled by Covington Memorial Funeral Home, Fort Wayne.
Ronald F. 'Ron' Ward, 71

Ronald F. 'Ron' Ward, 71, Peru, passed away at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, March
26, 2005 at his residence.
Ward was born on February 18, 1934 in Seneca Falls, N.Y. to Raymond and
Virdie (Stahl) Ward. He married Shirley Pittman on June 27, 1956.
Ward was a graduate of Romulus (N.Y.) High School and a retired USAF Chief
Master Sergeant after 24 years of service. Ward was also retired from Delco
Electronics, Kokomo, and has been a real estate agent since 1987. His
interests included woodworking and antiquing, including antique John Deere
tractors.
Ward is survived by two daughters, Kathryn MacDonald and husband James,
Wabash; and Karen Springer and husband Duane, Ft. Wayne; one son, Michael
Ward and wife Missy, Niceville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Kate and
Sarah MacDonald, Josh and Austin Springer, McKenzie and Mason Ward; one
brother, Gerald Ward, Oregon; one sister, Barbara Ward, Endicott, N.Y.
A private family service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Mt. Hope
Cemetery, Peru, with the Reverend James MacDonald officiating.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made through Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru,
to the Turnstone Center for Disabled Children and Adults, Ft. Wayne.
